Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temp
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk, room temp
  • ¼ cup sour cream, room temp
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, room temp
  • 6 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp fine salt
  • 3–4 tbsp milk or cream
Gel food coloring (deep rose pink, dusty rose, ivory/white)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line pans and prepare batter.
  2. Mix dry ingredients; cream butter and sugar; add eggs and vanilla; alternate adding flour and milk mixtures; bake and cool.
  3. Make buttercream: beat butter, gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and milk until smooth.
  4. Divide buttercream into bowls; tint as desired; level cakes; layer with buttercream; apply crumb coat and chill.
  5. Apply ombré gradient with spatula; add gold splatters; arrange flowers; insert topper; serve.
